3 top sporting books that executives can learn from

As promised here are a few of my personal favourites when it comes to sporting books that can help us become better at business, and at life. In this short blog I want to share with you three of my favourite books for doing this.

Remember, you share a lot of objectives as a person who competes in sport, they too have the same challenges as yourself, so let’s see how they overcome and deal with these and hopefully some can translate to your working life.

Here are my top 3:

Leading by Alex Ferguson

Sir Alex Ferguson is one of the few leaders who truly knows what it takes to create success on the world stage.

This book is structured around the key skills that Sir Alex values most highly. He covers the main subjects related to leadership including discipline, control, teamwork and motivation, delegation, data analysis and dealing with failure.

Can’t Hurt Me by David Goggins

David the only man in history to complete elite training as a Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and Air Force Tactical Air Controller, he then went on to set records in numerous endurance events, inspiring Outside magazine to name him The Fittest (Real) Man in America.

This is written in an autobiographical way but if you listen to this on Audible, he talks about each chapter and let’s you know what it really took and answers questions related to personal performance.

A great read and eye opener for how much the human being can go through.

Total Recall – Arnold Schwarzenegger

Again written as an Autobiography but something you can take a lot from.

Here is a person who came from a small town in post-war Austria who went on to becoming 7-time Mr Olympia, a Hollywood action star and Governor of California. He was also a successful businessman before most of these achievements so here is the perfect example for showing how success in sports and business require similar personal skills.

Extract what you can

Whilst we are in this Coronavirus period, take the time to better yourself and by reading or listening to these books you can give yourself a mental diet that can help you get what you want in business.
